FLOWERS AND VEGETABLES

At Blooming Wands Farm I believe that flowers  and vegetables grow their very best in a chemical free environment that utilizes companion planting and beneficial insects.  Being in between 7b and 8a  zones and having a hoop house allows me to start seeds earlier and harvest into the fall.  Each year  I continue to expand my selection as well as the quantity of flowers and vegetables.  All the vegetables are grown from heirloom seeds to preserve the original flavor. These vegetables do not necessarily yield what the genetically altered vegetables do but they taste the way vegetables tasted 100 years ago. Quality not quantities is our top priority.

SEASONAL FLOWERS

I continue to expand the variety of flowers grown as well as the volume of available flowers. One of my customers favorite gift giving programs is my "FarmHer's Choice Bouquets". These lovely programs can be purchased year round and the recipient will receive a specific number of seasonal bouquets at key points in spring and summer when my flowers are at their greatest beauty. Bouquets are hand delivered to the gift recipient.

DAIRY PRODUCTS

I am a lover of all things dairy…. probably because I was raised on a dairy farm. My favorite is goat cheese. So 8 years ago I met a woman who raises goats and makes her own cheese and she showed me how to make cheese, what supplies I needed along with generously giving me information and important resources.

After that experience, I started my small herd of Nigerian Dwarf goats with two does and a buck. I chose Nigerian Dwarf goats because of their high butter fat and their sweet docile personalities so that children are safe petting them.  Since then, my herd of milking goats continues to grow. I have goat cheese year round and can ship.

JAMS, JELLIES & SAUCES

Part of the beauty of growing vegetables and berries is enjoying them year round. I make various berry jams and jellies along with hot and vinegar based sauces. The fruits are harvested at the height of ripeness and apples are used for a natural pectin.

NATURAL HEALTH PRODUCTS

Working outdoors 365 days a year, I come face to face with natures' elements.  In the same way that I pride myself on raising flowers and vegetables in the most natural way, I wanted a way to protect my skin from bug bites without exposing myself to harsh chemicals.   I tried multiple products without success.  Until I created my own all natural spray to discourage the bugs from biting or bothering my skin.

Friends and neighbors began asking for bottles of this all natural spray and soon "Bye Bye Berry Bug" spray became one of our most popular offerings! Order early in the spring and summer before our supply runs out! Safe for children.

ARTWORK

I had always considered myself a writer armed with a degree in Journalism until art found me.  I went to the Dallas Art Institute thinking of working in film and I discovered I could draw and sculpt.   After graduating with a computer animation/multi-media degree, I made some beaded garden markers for a gardening shot for the Dallas Morning News. I was a freelance stylist for the House & Garden section.

The editor thought they were too complicated (to write instructions for readers to reproduce them at home) but she paid me for my time and put them in her yard.

So, I left with and a nice check.  Afterwards, I had lunch with a friend who dared me to take samples I had at home and take the to a boutique and sell them. I thought it was absurd idea until she reminded the editor had put those markers in her yard. I agreed to one sales call. The gift store loved them and wanted to know what exactly they were. I just made up a name for them. “They are blooming wands” She said “How enchanting! "And they sold them as fast as I could make them. I started making copper cross blooming wands for a florist and then just decorative copper cross. This is an example of those various styles, they are custom made. I also weld yard art.

A few years ago, I thought I would try painting.  Love, love, love painting.  Especially brightly colored abstract pieces.  This past summer a friend suggested that I create prints of my work and design my own special line of "Blooming Wands Farm" cards.  My art allows me to preserve the beauty of the flowers and farm in acrylic and other mediums that can be enjoyed year round.
